The Psychological Assessment of Pilots

Implementing the guidelines for mandatory pilot assessment

Following the Germanwings 9525 accident in March 2015, the BEA report included recommendations for regulatory change. This was a result of the findings that the accident was deliberately caused by the First Officer.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) discussed possible action with airlines and medical and psychological experts to understand how to assess and support the mental fitness of pilots.
