Reshaping Talent Strategies Through COVID-19: Disrupted Times Require Creative Solutions

October 14, 2020 John McLaughlin

The Challenge

The first global pandemic in over 100 years has forced organisations’ HR leaders to rethink how to support their workforce and engage with candidates.

The initial priority was employee health and safety. The next challenge was adapting working practices so progress could continue with hiring and deploying staff.

Online assessments were being used beyond talent acquisition to support the essential redeployment of staff. In‑person assessment centres moved into the virtual space within days and virtual interviewing was embraced by some for the first time.

Many organisations are now in the recovery phase – getting people back into the office, reshaping working practices and rethinking structures. HR leaders play an essential role in keeping the workforce healthy and safe, engaged, resilient and productive at work. For some, recruitment freezes are in place as they capitalise on their current internal talent’s skills, redeploying them as necessary. For others, recruitment continues – although with a different shape to activities. Talent acquisition professionals have a critical role to play in order to get people into employment.

As we move forward, how can we take the lessons learned from the past few months into the future? Which tools can help us take assessment practices forward as we reshape our talent activities?

The most common topics we are being asked about are:

  • How to maximise the workforce’s talents.
  • How to manage the hiring process when facedwith thousands of applicants.
  • How has virtual assessment helped professionalise recruitment and make it more engaging?
  • How is a move to home working reflected in the behaviours needed?
